Recently in south Florida the record cold temperatures across the lower half of the state hit the fish and other wildlife hard, many species of fish literally froze to death from the shock of sudden water tempature changes.
These reports came in from the entire east Atlantic coast of Florida and included inland waters as well. Not only have there been many different species of fish affected but birds, and sea turtles as well other animal populations suffered from the recent record cold weather.
Thousands of different species of fish have almost literally been wiped out by this cold snap and it will take some time for a recovery if that is ever possible. It has been reported that the weather has not been this cold in southern Florida for decades.
It will take some time to realize the true impact this has had on Florida’s wildlife, the Fish and wildlife Commision have temporaraly closed the season to study the impact this has had on the fish populations across florida, thankfully many anglers understand what this means and are voluntarily choosing to catch and release in this time of crisis. The date january 2010 will no doubt be rememberd by anglers and wildlife lovers for years to come.
